Going out around le Cours Julien
In part 1 of this section “Marseille nightlife” we talked about going out around the Old Port of Marseille, right alongside the water and (mainly) its Irish pubs.
Today we want to introduce to you a very special part of the city, filled with street art, called the “artists neighborhood” and always crowded with people ready to have a drink and party, le “Cours Julien“.
Still in the city center of Marseille, just a few minutes walking distance from the Old Port and very well deserved thanks to the Metro line 2 (Notre Dame du Mont station) this district will amaze you !

Best bars in Marseille – Cours Julien
If you got here by metro, as soon as you get out of it you’ll find yourself on the Cours Julien street. A pedestrian straight line with nice restaurants and bars on both sides. Do not hesitate in having a drink on La Brasserie Communale, a new place with a great atmosphere and live music from now and then.
After you had your “apéro” you can enjoy a tasteful italian meal at La Cantinetta and great pizzas at Papa Fredo.
Ready to go out in Marseille ?
You’ve already eaten and you are willing to have some fun around here. Where to go ? Our choices to have some beers or pastis (local drink) in an authentic place are Le Champ de Mars in the heart of the neighborhood or Au Petit Nice on the Jean Jaurès square. Both have cheap prices.
If you are a beer fan you can’t miss La Voie Maltée, a beer bar in a very elegant renovated house.
Right in front of it you’ll find La Fiesta. As its name stands for you’ll be able to dance and party until late in this place. Restaurant until midnight once everyone finished the meal they push away the tables and invite you to the dancefloor. Quick detail, they’ll let you dans ON the tables !!
If you feel like get inside a proper nightclub, you must go to La Baby techno club and a place prepare to make you spend an awesome night.
